PDF Knitting Pattern | Instant Download | Sizes 0 – 3 years PENELOPE POLAR BEAR MITTENS A sweet pair of mittens perfect for keeping little hands warm and toasty in the colder months. These are quick and easy to make and minimal in their design. I’ve gone for monochrome and used grey for knitting the hand, but you could use any colour. I’d love to see how the little bears look against some different shades so do please send me a photo so I can see! Includes a free Knitting Techniques Guide which explains all the techniques you need to know and includes access to my online video tutorials so you can learn to knit as you go along. PATTERN DETAILS Sizes: The pattern contains instructions for sizes 0-6M, 6-12M, 1-2Y and 2-3Y Yarn needed: 25g – 45g in main colour Yarn weight: DK Recommended Yarn: Yarn Stories Fine Merino DK Needles: 4mm and 3.25mm straight knitting needles Knitting level: Beginner + Language: English The mittens are worked flat on straight needles from the bottom up and then seamed together at the end. The polar bear is added using duplicate stitch (my favourite method for adding designs to knitwear!). This means the mittens are knit in plain grey with a block of white at the top of the mitten. The bear’s ears, eyes and nose are then embroidered over the top of the plain stitches at the end. Sizes 0-6M and 6-12M are thumbless and sizes 1-2Y and 2-3Y include thumbs. The mitten top is shaped using mirrored decreases for a professional finish. All of these techniques are explained in the guide and shown in my video tutorials.

Octopus Mittens

Octopus Mittens

Octopus Mittens are a pair of stranded colorwork mittens. Size: The mittens are 8.5 inches around (measured above the thumb) and 9 inches tall (1.5 inches of cuff and 7.5 inches in hand). They fit a medium-sized woman’s hand, 7.5 inches around and 7 inches from the base of the palm to the tip of the fingers. Directions are given in only one size. Resize mittens by changing gauge appropriately.Difficulty: This is an intermediate colorwork project. It involves many long floats, a non-repetitive pattern, and a design that wraps around the palm and thumb. The colorwork directions are given in chart form.Yarn: The pattern calls for equal amounts of two colors — approximately 150 yards of each. This is just barely more than half a skein of each color in Sanguine Gryphon Traveller. The Sanguine Gryphon no longer exists, but the Traveller yarn is available from its children and sister companies: the Verdant Gryphon, Cephalopod Yarns, and Dragonfly Fibers (Dragonfly Language English Brand Independent Designer Designer Emily Peters Craft Knitting Format Downloadable PDF Skill Level Intermediate Pages 7
