Vintage 1950’s cocktail dress is made from bright gold heavy weight Lurex brocade with a leaf print. Dress has a boat neckline with straight half sleeves. Flared below the knee skirt has side gathers and a pointed waist. Dress has a V back with metal Talon zipper. Fully lined in light salmon taffeta. Excellent condition with no visible flaws. Please see photos for more details. Measurements- Bust-34” Waist-26’ Hips-Free Length from Shoulder-37” All items are vintage that are preowned and have been worn. All of the items will show some form of wear, tear or odor due to their age. I always recommend having any vintage piece dry cleaned before wearing. Lingerie is washed before being listed for sale. The Cut Out Dress POPPY pattern includes 5 files: The full pattern (SIZES XXS – 3XL) in DinA4, DinA0 and US LETTER, printing instructions and sewing instructions. You are able to print out the pattern at home and tape the pages together by aligning the diamonds on the edges of the pages together. Alternatively, you can print out the DinA0 file at a shop. You only have to print out ONE PDF, not all three. Please read the general information PDF carefully that will be included in this purchase to be able to print correctly and the sewing instructions for more details. This pattern is WITHOUT seam allowance. This pattern is a project for intermediates or anybody who wants to give this project a go. Please closely follow the sewing instructions and the previously linked YouTube video if you have any questions before reaching out directly to me. Most questions have already been asked and added to either the sewing instructions or this description (or both). In my YouTube video I used a polyester lace for the outer layer and 100% cotton poplin as lining for this pattern (I would recommend rayon for the lining instead though!). Historical dress
This day dress belonged to Elizabeth Ann Fullwood Aycock (c1828-1864). Born in Old Sumter District in South Carolina c.1828, Elizabeth Ann Fullwood was the daughter of William J. Fullwood and Lavinia Pringle. Elizabeth married James H. Aycock in 1855. The mother of three, Elizabeth died in 1864. This pattern contains two graded versions of the bodice. The original dress is a maternity dress with a raised waistline in the front. In the second version the front bodice has been lengthened to the style of late 1850’s and is non-maternity. Both bodices have all the original details and styling. This front opening day dress has full bishops sleeves which are hand pleated and back stitched at the shoulder and cuff. The bodice is lined and boned and closes with hooks and eyes on the lining; pleat details at center front waist. The neck, armscye, sleeve cuff, and waist have piping, The skirt is gauged into the bodice. Original dress is both hand sewn and machine sewn. The sleeves are full bishop style sleeves with a tuck at the elbow. These sleeves are lined with a narrower cut sleeve lining which has two large pleats at the sleeve head and no cuffs. The fullness at the top of the self sleeve is contained by 25 pleats at the top and again pleats at the cuff. The top pleats have a double row of stitching which catches the sleeve lining. The pleats are caught at the bottom with a single row of stitch which creates a cuff effect. FIT: This dress is meant to fit snugly over a corset. Petticoats or a small crinoline may have been worn. FABRIC: The original self fabric is a light to medium weight printed cotton with a brown based stripe with red, white, black and yellow figured stripes which create a strong horizontal pattern.
