As you may have read in my previous post, for Scheepjes’ YARN book-a-zine issue 8 (Sep 2019) called Tea Room I designed the Blooming Tea Cosy. Your response to it has been so amazing that as a thank you I’ve designed a coaster to accompany it. I hope you like the Blooming Coaster and that I will see you share it on social media with #bloomingcoaster @thecuriocraftsroom and #thecuriocraftsroom The pattern is available in US, UK, Dutch and German and there’s also a PDF version (same languages) that you can purchase in my Etsy and Ravelry shops for a small fee. The advantages of the PDF are: ~ large chart ~ graphic design is the same as for all of my other patterns, so a clear layout with bullet point instructions ~ you support my crochet business so that I can keep publishing free patterns I’ve also made the Blooming Tea Cosy and Coaster in another colourway. You’ll find all the colour info below. PATTERN in US terms (with UK terms in table below) The Dutch pattern is published here. The German pattern is published here. Materials Crochet hooks: 2.5mm and 3mm Yarn: Scheepjes Catona (100% Mercerized Cotton) Scheepjes Catona yarn colours: Rounds 1 + 6 Amethyst 240 Rounds 2 + 8 Silver Blue 528 Rounds 3 + 7 Dark Teal 401 Rounds 4 + 5 Shadow Purple 394 Rounds 1 + 6 Rust 388 Rounds 2 + 8 Ginger Gold 383 Rounds 3 + 7 Shadow Purple 394 Rounds 4 + 5 Amethyst 240 Gauge \u0026Tension Gauge and tension are not critical for this project. It is however important to work the final two rounds with a smaller hook to prevent them from ruffling. Measurements Diameter after blocking 13.5cm / 5.3in from picot to picot. Stitches \u0026 Abbreviations Crochet Terms used in this pattern: US US Crochet Terms UK Crochet Terms [ ] total number of stitches on a round [ ] total number of stitches on a round ch chain ch chain ch-1 sp(s) space(s) with 1 chain (or more as indicated) ch-1 sp(s) space(s) with 1 chain (or more as indicated) dc double crochet tr treble crochet picot 2 picot chain 2 picot 2 picot chain 2 picot 3 picot chain 3 picot 3 picot chain 3 rep repeat rep repeat sc single crochet dc double crochet slst slip stitch ss slip stitch trc triple crochet dtr double treble crochet yoh yarn over hook yoh yarn over hook Pattern Notes I designed this Blooming Coaster to accompany the Blooming Tea Cosy I designed for Scheepjes book-a-zine YARN issue 8 called Tea Room. The Tea Cosy pattern is only available in the book-a-zine. I prefer to start with standing stitches, not with chains. So e.g. if you have to start with a dc, you could start with ch3, but a standing dc will look nicer. You work a standing dc as follows: slipknot on hook, yoh, secure yoh with index finger, insert hook into indicated st/sp and work a dc as normal. The picots in this pattern are worked as follows: picot 2: ch2, slst in second ch from hook picot 3: ch3, slst in third ch from hook Instructions With 3mm hook, make a magic ring. Round 1 (1sc, ch2) 6 times in ring, slst in first sc to close, fasten off. [6 sc, 6 ch-2 sps] Round 2 Start with slst in any sc, (ch3, 2trc in ch-2 sp, ch3, slst in next sc) 6 times, omitting final slst in next sc on last rep, sls
t in first slst, fasten off. [6 slst, 12 trc, 12 ch-3 sps] Round 3 Start with 1sc in any slst, *ch2, (1sc, ch3, 1sc) in space in between the 2 trc, ch2, 1sc in next slst, rep from * 5 more times, omitting final slst on last rep, slst in first sc, fasten off. [18 sc, 12 ch-2 sps, 6 ch-3 sps] Round 4 Start with *(2dc, ch2, 2dc) in any ch-3 sp, ch4, rep from * 5 more times, slst in first dc, fasten off. [24 sc, 12 ch-2 sps, 12 ch-5 sps, 6 picot 2, 6 picot 3] Weave in all ends. To get a PDF version of this pattern for a small fee, please visit my Etsy or Ravelry shop. Blocking To get the most beautiful result, the coaster needs blocking. For blocking you can use special blocking mats or Styrofoam and pins, but you could also put a towel on your ironing board and pin it onto that. Spray with some water and let it dry naturally.
