Floating Frames Quilt Pattern
This is a very simple quilt pattern that is fast to make. It’s perfect for a beginner or for when you need a quick quilt that looks complicated. The pattern is fat quarter friendly or can be made from yardage or scraps. This beautiful quilt was made by my ten year old granddaughter. In making this quilt, it’s helpful if you have a square up ruler, or you can use your cutting matt. You also need a rotary cutter. You will use strip piecing methods so it goes together fast. It’s very modern without borders, but you could add borders if you like. The pattern is for a throw size (50 X 62 1/2 inches) but you could easily add more rows and/or borders to make it bigger.

The only difference is the addition of new design improvements.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n68TtC6auT0 This frame is the most maneuverable free moving frame of any frame I know of on the market. With this kit you provide 3 additional co
mponents.(1) 1” diameter PVC pipe handle and (2) ½” diameter electrical conduit pipes for the rolls. This frames moves on (4) steel bearing balls one under each corner of the end frame roll supports. Since the frame moves and the sewing machine remains stationary you need adequate table width to move the frame side to side. An option is to use 3 tables. One in the center that the sewing machine sets on ( preferably with casters for easy rolling as needed ) and 2 other tables one at each end for the frame to roll on. I have used 2 card tables to accomplish this. I prefer to use this light weight frame for making small quilts like lap quilts and baby quilts. The ½” electrical conduit is available at Home Depot type home centers and costs about $4.00 per 10’ length. The 1” PVC pipe as used in sprinkler systems also comes in 10’ lengths and also costs around $4.00 per 10’ My preference is a frame 60” wide so as to use only one 10’ conduit. (the actual quilting width is less than 60” when end clearance distance is considered, I also like to leave end distance to move the quilt away from the sewing machine so as to access the lower bobbin. When I make the rolls I attach a leader strip by either glue or a strong duct tape. This allows for attaching the quilt layers. In either case be sure and clean the pipe of any oil or residue. Alcohol works well. Shown below are photos of the Artisan kit.
