This simple rib hat is a great basic for everyone’s winter wardrobe…. baby, boys, girls, teens, men and women! Turn up the rib for a fitted hat with a double layer cuff, or wear it unfolded and tall for a young contemporary look. This pattern is written for DK / US light worsted yarns…. if you would like to knit an Aran (US Worsted) or Chunky (US Bulky) Mikki Hat these instructions are available as separate knitting patterns. A simple knit is perfect project for new knitters, and a relaxing knit for experienced knitters! Detailed row by row instructions for each size make this pattern super easy! I also have free KNITTING TECHNIQUE VIDEOS! Head over to my LINDA WHALEY KNIT STUDIO YouTube Channel for additional help with these simple stitches… and how-to to sew up a completely invisible seam (for those of you knitting flat and seamed). If you love my videos it would be great if you could subscribe to my YouTube channel (it’s free) as every click helps my little knit studio to grow. Thank you. Separate detailed instructions are included to knit this hat either FLAT on a pair of SINGLE POINTED needles / or IN THE ROUND on DPNs Detailed row by row instructions for each size make this pattern super easy! These MIKKI ribbed hats shown here have been knitted in Debbie Bliss Rialto DK and Sirdar Snuggly Cashmere Merino DK on 3.25mm (US3) As this hat is knitted in rib it requires a smaller needle than the standard size recommended for DK (US Light worsted) yarns. This smaller needle size will give you a neat rib with elasticity and memory (it will bounce back). The hats sizes are written using the tension of this smaller needle Other recommend DK merino yarns are: Sublime Extra Fine Merino DK, Rico Essentials DK, Valley Yarns Superwash Merino DK Due to the elasticity of this rib structure, the hat is very narrow when lying flat and stretches for a snug fit. The best fit for this hat is when the hat is stretched between the smallest and largest of its stretch capability. The sizes have been carefully worked out so they should be a great fit the ages listed below. Size Circumference flat-stretched / Height cuff folded / Height unfolded 0-3m / 14.5-27cm / 12cm / 17cm 3-6m / 17-32cm / 14cm / 18cm 6-12m / 19.5-37cm / 15cm / 19cm 1-2 yrs / 22-42cm / 16cm / 20cm 3-5 yrs / 24.5-44cm / 17cm / 21cm 6-9 yrs / 27-50cm / 18cm / 22cm 10-12 yrs / 29.5-54cm / 19cm / 23cm Teen/AdultS / 32-58cm / 20cm / 24cm Adult M/L / 34.5-64cm / 23cm / 27cm Sizes 0-3 months (3-6 months, 6-12 months, 1-2 years, 3-5 years, 6-9 years, 10-12 years, Teen/Adult S, Adult M/L) You will need: 40 (50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 130) gm – Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 1 pair of 3.25mm (US3) single pointed needles / or DPNs Darning/tapestry needle When ordering alternative DK yarns /US Light Worsted yarns use the following yards / metres 92 (114, 137, 160, 183, 206, 228, 251, 297) Yards 84( 105, 126, 147, 168, 189, 210, 221, 273) Metres Tension Worked in k2, p2 rib (main hat pattern) Flat/un-stretched 21 sts = 5cms/2 inches 16 rows = 5cms/2 inches If you are printing this pattern, just print out the size you are knitting along with the ‘All Sizes’ pages to save on ink.
